PFLAG 原名為「Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays」。
1972年,她與兒子一起參加紐約的同志驕傲遊行,並舉起寫著「Parents of Gays: Unite in Support for Our Children(同志的父母,團結起來支持我們的孩子)」的標語。
English Article Version
On March 11, 1973, PFLAG — originally known as Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays — was founded in the United States.
The organization was inspired by Jeanne Manford, a mother who publicly supported her gay son during a period when LGBTQ+ people often faced widespread discrimination and social stigma.
In 1972, Jeanne Manford marched in New York’s Pride parade alongside her son while holding a sign that read, “Parents of Gays: Unite in Support for Our Children.” Her act of public support attracted other parents who were seeking ways to understand and support their children.
This growing network of families eventually became PFLAG in 1973. The organization focused on education, advocacy, and support for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families.
Over the decades, PFLAG expanded across the United States and internationally, becoming one of the most influential organizations promoting acceptance and equality.
March 11, 1973 marks a pivotal moment when family voices began playing a visible role in the movement for LGBTQ+ rights.
