George Washington was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and its first president. As Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, he led the colonies to victory over Britain. He later presided over the Constitutional Convention and helped establish the framework of the U.S. government. Known for his integrity and restraint, Washington set a precedent by voluntarily stepping down after two terms.
